Chaneys Corner, Proposed Intersection Safety Improvement
Christchurch City Council proposes to make changes to improve safety at the Chaneys Corner intersection.
Christchurch City Council proposes to make changes to improve safety at the Chaneys Corner intersection, with 19 reported crashes in the six-year period, 2010-2016.
As part of this work, we will create a left hand turning slip lane for motorists travelling north on Marshland Road who want to turn left to access the northern motorway. This will allow clear separation from vehicles travelling straight ahead, reducing uncertainty for vehicles coming from Old Main North Road. The Old Main North Road Give Way will be changed to a Stop sign to make it consistent with the Spencerville Road approach and reduce confusion regarding priorities. Updated warning signs will be installed on Marshland Road as an early advisory to motorists.
We would like to receive your feedback on this proposal.
Traffic lights and a roundabout were considered as part of the investigations into improving this intersection. Traffic lights have been discounted for the following reasons:
A roundabout is not suitable for this location due to the unbalanced number of vehicles at the four approaches to this intersection.
All feedback will be considered by the project team, prior to a staff recommendation being made to the Papanui Innes Community Board. The Community Board will consider the staff recommendation and community
feedback prior to making a decision on the proposal. In advance of the meeting, all submitters will receive information about the consultation summary, staff recommendation and the meeting time and location.
