The Amendment to the Alcohol Restrictions in Public Places Bylaw 2018(external link), has been updated.

Woolston Village has had a temporary alcohol ban since December 2022. The temporary ban has been effective in addressing alcohol related crime and disorder caused by people drinking in public places.

The Council is proposing to include Woolston Village in the Alcohol Restrictions in Public Places Bylaw 2018(external link), under Schedule 1 of the Bylaw. This permanent alcohol ban would apply in public places (does not apply to private properties or licensed premises), 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to both sides of the roads in the area bounded by:

  • Hargood Street
  • Glenroy Street
  • St. John Street
  • Ferry Road
  • Rutherford Street
  • the Heathcote River (Radley Park)
  • Cumnor Terrace
  • Riley Crescent
  • Laura Kent park walkway along Heathcote River.

The Police who are responsible for enforcing alcohol bans, support an alcohol ban for this area. The Council will make a decision to include Woolston Village area as part of the permanent ban later in 2023.
