Some of the streets in Richmond are due for renewal. We will be upgrading a number of the streets in the next three years, with potential of other streets to be upgraded after that. There is an overall plan of the whole area to show how all the work will fit together.

Dudley Street

  • Narrowing the road to eight metres (currently nine metres)
  • Replacing deep gutters with flat channel
  • New footpath and grass berms
  • A new threshold on Dudley Street at Stapletons Road to highlight Dudley Street as a high amenity street
  • A new threshold on Nicholls Street at Dudley Street to highlight Dudley Street as a high amenity street

Trees

We are not removing any trees along Dudley Street.

Due to the age and size of the trees, collectively they protect each other, especially during high winds.

If we remove any of the mature trees within the street it is likely to impact the structural integrity of the remaining trees. We will continue to monitor and maintain the trees along the street.

Nicholls Street

  • Fraxinus ornus - manna ash tree

Narrowing the road to eight metres (currently nine metres)
  • Replacing deep gutters with flat channel
  • New footpath and grass berms
  • A new threshold on Nicholls Street at Dudley Street to highlight Dudley Street as a high amenity street

Trees

We are removing 12 existing trees and planting 19 new manna ash (Fraxinus ornus) trees along Nicholls Street.

Stapletons Road (Warden to Shirley Road)

  • Narrowing the road to seven metres (currently varies from seven to nine metres)
  • Replacing deep gutters with flat channel
  • New footpath and grass berms
  • Raised pedestrian crossing platform at Julius Terrace
  • Footpath along Dudley Creek to be extended to Shirley Road

Trees

  • We are removing seven existing trees and planting eight new trees
  • 1x new Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides)
  • 6x new Kahikatea (Dacrycarpus dacrydioides)
  • 1x new Hybrid Magnolia (Magnolia ‘Vulcan’)
