This plan will guide and coordinate activity along the stretch of the river from the Opāwa Bridge to the Estuary.
There is a lot of activity along the lower stretch of the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River by community groups, Council and other agencies, but currently there is no coherent vision to guide this activity so that it is joined up.
The Waikura Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board agreed in its 2020-2022 Community Board Plan to create a document that would provide this direction.
A Working Party of elected members and community group representatives have been meeting to set the foundation for a wider community conversation, and they are keen to hear from you about your vision for the river.
We are aware that many of you have concerns about the state of the river, and the issues and challenges we face to bring the river back to health. The plan will address these at a high level, with proposals for solutions that community and elected members alike can collaborate in and also lobby for change.
