Consultation has now closed
People were able to provide feedback from 9 October to 6 November 2019.
During this time we heard from 39 individuals and groups. You can read their feedback [PDF, 162 KB] and the agenda(external link) online.
From the feedback, we have developed a revised plan.
King Park playground revised plan
The play equipment at King Park playground is nearing the end of its useable lifespan— some of it dates back to the 1930s!
It’s time to get some new equipment for a range of ages and abilities that’s safe, easy to maintain and meets the New Zealand Playground Standards.
While we are doing this we also plan to move the playground into the north-west corner of the park. This area gets more sun and stays drier in the winter. It’s also closer to the car park and footpath.
A new path to the play space, a picnic table, new plants and some new trees will create a more inviting area for families and picnicking.

We’ve picked equipment that allows for a range of play and is suitable for both the park setting and the local community.

Swings
Please tell us your preference between two swing options:
Option A - Two infant swings and two regular swings
Option B - One basket swing, one infant swing and one regular swing.
Slide
The double wave slide is big enough for children who want to race but is small enough for a grown-up to reach up and help the littlest sliders.

Space Shuttle
The space shuttle spinner is a great item that suits a wide range of ages and abilities.
Smaller children and infants can sit or lay in the bottom basket and be spun around. Older children can climb up to the next level and either spin themselves around or see how high they can climb.

Please tell us your preference between two rocker options.
Both are ideal for smaller children who enjoy rocking. The fun character shape helps spark their imagination.

Next steps
Once the consultation period has closed, the project team will analyse the feedback and produce a report which will make recommendations to the Waikura/Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board. At this stage, we are expecting a decision from the board sometime in April 2020.
If you provide feedback you will receive an update ahead of the decision meeting. It will include the staff recommendations to the board, details about the decision meeting and how to request to speak to the board if you wish to do so.
If approved, construction of the playground is expected to start in May/June 2020, subject to weather conditions and contractor availability.
