Consultation on the Halswell Domain Carpark has now closed. People were able to provide feedback from 8 February 2019 to 27 February 2019. During this time we heard from 12 individuals and groups. You can read the responses received [PDF, 9 KB].

On 9 April Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board made the decision to approve this project. Construction is likely to begin May/June 2019.

Background

This proposal is for construction of the third and final carpark to be added on Halswell Domain. As part of the long term development plan, of Halswell Domain, there have been several extensions both to the north and south of the original domain. These extensions  added around 2002 have allowed for increased use of the domain resulting in the need for additional car parking.

Proposed carpark site on Halswell Domain

Placement of this carpark on Edward Stafford Avenue has taken the following factors into consideration:

  • This is a busy site during weekend sports causing congestion
  • Locating a carpark in this position has minimal impact on the current use of the domain
  • The parking is angled  to allow easier and safer reversing into the narrow street
  • No tree removals  are required to create parking at this site
  • This parking will be available for residents when no sports are on
  • The off street parking is safer for passengers exiting vehicles
  • Will provide access to the fields where the drainage swale is shallow and with gentle slopes. Two boardwalks will be provided to allow access when the swale is wet.

We look forward to receiving your feedback and comments on this development.
