A report will be presented to the Coastal - Burwood Community board for project approval at their meeting on Monday 17 September 2018. The agenda will be available on the Council website from Friday 14 September 2018.
Recognising the characteristics of the Prestons road network, as well as increasing traffic volumes and numbers of vulnerable roads users associated with development in the area, we have identified that a reduced speed limit is appropriate. The 40km/h speed limit takes into account safe and appropriate speeds in accordance with the NZTA approved guides to speed management.
In developing the proposal, Council has engaged with a number of key stakeholder groups and the responses have been positive. In addition to the safety benefits of the proposal, there are other potential benefits such as improved levels of amenity associated with reduced signage and lower vehicle noise and fume emissions.
If the speed limit is approved, the existing school speed zone will discontinue and the electronic speed signs will be removed and replaced with electronic warning signs. The static school zone signs will be removed.
