Opening hours

Ōtautahi Christchurch EcoDrop Resource Recovery Centres are open from 7am to 4.30pm, seven days a week and closed on Good Friday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Secure your trailer load

It's important to make sure that your trailer load is secure before heading to our EcoDrops. 

Material can shift around during the journey and come loose from the vehicle. This can create hazards and litter on our roads.

Items must be of good, reusable quality and are accepted upon inspection. Items must be dry, free from rips, stains, fades, wear and tear and not broken. If you would consider an item fit for sale or to give to a friend, then it is likely to be accepted at a Resource Recovery Centre. 

Acceptable items

• Anything metal in working or non-working condition including fridges, whiteware, washing machines, metal jugs, metal blenders, metal toasters, pots and pans.
• Antiques and collectables.
• Appliances, such as lamps in good condition. Broken appliances may be able to be fixed at the EcoShop.
• Bathroom accessories.
• E-waste, such as computers, laptops, monitors, mobile phones, tablets, wires and cables in working or non-working condition. 
• Furniture, such as armchairs, sofas, tables, desks, and cabinets with no stains, or rips.
• Heat pumps and dehumidifiers in working and non-working condition.
• Kitchenware, such as plates, cups, glasses, bowls, and storage containers.
• Music equipment and collections.
• Pet supplies.
• Sports and leisure equipment.
• Televisions must be in working condition and must have an HDMI port.
• Tools and garden equipment.
• Toys and games.

Items that are not accepted

• Anything that is ripped, stained, wet or broken.
• Alternative milk and liquid cartons.
• Bedding, such as mattresses, sheets, pillows, and duvets.
• Computer monitors smaller than 21 inch.
• Kitset items unless in their original box. This includes furniture items that have been dismantled. 
• Lightbulbs.
• Plastic plant pots.
• Polystyrene.
• Printer cartridges.
• Soft plastics.
• Televisions such as plasma, CRT TV, glass screens or televisions without an HDMI port
• Wooden organs.

Acceptable items

• Agrichemicals
• Batteries, such as vehicles, tools, household batteries, and vapes.
• Chemicals, such as unwanted, unused or old household liquid chemicals, cleaners and dry chemicals. In original packaging if possible.
• E-waste, including any item where the battery cannot be easily removed, such as electronic toothbrushes, and laptops.
• Gas bottles and canisters, such as LPG gas bottles, butane camping gas canisters, helium bottles, CO2 cylinders, aerosol cans, fire extinguishers and nitrous oxide canisters.
• Paints and solvents.
• Tyres. Each customer can drop a maximum of 5 tyres for free at a time. Tyres must be clean, off rims and truck size or smaller.
• Waste oils, such as unwanted, vehicle and cooking oil.

Items that are not accepted

• Ammunition and firearms. Contact the Police Arms Office(external link)
• Asbestos and products containing asbestos.
• Electric vehicle batteries. Take to Phoenix Recycling Christchurch(external link)
• Explosive and flares. Contact the Police Arms Office(external link)
• Hazardous waste from any business or commercial site.
• Medical waste. For medicine and sharps, such as needles and insulin pens, visit CDHB (external link)and for all other medical waste visit Interwaste(external link)

Acceptable items

• Clean food and drink tins and cans. No lids.
• Clean glass bottles and jars only. No lids.
• Clean plastic bottles, trays and containers numbered 1, 2 and 5 only. No smaller than 100ml or bigger than 4 litres. No lids. 
• Paper and cardboard larger than an envelope.

Large quantities of green waste can be dropped at the EcoDrop transfer stations for a disposal fee based on weight.

Acceptable green waste

• Branches.
• Fresh garden matter.
• Lawn clippings.
• Leaves.
• Rose pruning.
• Shrub and hedge trimmings.

Acceptable rubbish

• Anything that can be placed in your red wheelie bin at home.(external link)
