Sector 7 is an event space in the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor (OARC), between Locksley Avenue and New Brighton Road. Events for approximately 5000 people can be held in this space.

Christchurch City Council is trialling the use of the site for music events this summer to assess if the space is suitable for further use over the next few years.

The trial is required due to the increasing demand for outdoor event space in the city.

The location within the OARC has been chosen for its suitability, based on the history of events using the site, accessibility for eventgoers, and considerations of noise on the surrounding area.

Plans are in place to reduce impacts on residents, the ground, and surrounding wildlife, however, these impacts will be monitored at each event to determine the suitability of the site.

The site has been called Sector 7 as the OARC is split into numbered areas, known as sectors, and this sector is number seven.

Events at the site will finish by 10.30pm and will be supervised by Council staff. Residents will be notified via letter drop of event details and what to expect ahead of time.

A traffic management plan will ensure that event visitors have access to the site without significantly impacting local road users.

Public parking is not available on-site, so attendees are encouraged to plan to use alternative transport to the site.
