Tour Christchurch with Kate Sheppard

Hear what life was like for women in Kate Sheppard's day, experience an 1893 suffrage meeting, listen to a rejoicing piano suite and view an exhibition.

Tour the city by bus to hear about 27 sites associated with Kate Sheppard.

Led by a person dressed as Kate Sheppard, we stop at:

  • Kate Sheppard House - for a cup of tea, and garden stroll
  • Seddon bell-tower - “King Dick Seddon” entertains us with his views on votes for women
  • Addington Cemetery - we leave a flower on Kate’s grave
  • Kate Sheppard Memorial - we hear about other leading suffragists, and how Kate’s work for equal rights continues today.

Participants will get a booklet containing background information, a tour map, and pictures.

Please bring your own bag lunch. Tea and coffee are provided.

Please note this event takes place on Sunday 16 October, a change from the printed calendar.
