The final concert of the year will showcase two young Christchurch musicians as soloists. Viola player Abby Wheeler will perform the wonderful "Viola Concerto #1" by Dunedin composer Anthony Ritchie, and percussionist Hannah Kagawa will bring us "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" by Saint-Saens - originally composed for violin, transcribed here for marimba. What a treat!
Also on the programme is the ever popular and exciting "Festival Overture" by Shostakovich, and we will conclude with Dvorak "Symphony No.6". And yes - our concert is at Show Weekend; this concert is a great way to conclude a long weekend here in the city.
Established in 1952, the Canterbury Philharmonic Orchestra is the longest established recreational orchestra in Christchurch Ōtautahi.
