Join Council rangers and the Styx Living Laboratory Trust on the lower Pūharakekenui Styx River in Brooklands to plant and restore an important ecosystem.
The Pūharakekenui Styx River defines the western edge of Brooklands red zone before entering Brooklands Lagoon.
The Styx Living Laboratory Trust – in partnership with Council and the community - have been actively restoring land along the river for more than twenty years as part of a wider vision to restore a viable spring-fed river ecosystem.
Much of this work has taken place in the upper parts of the catchment, however we now have an opportunity to continue restoring these important lower floodplain areas.
You can take part by coming along to help us plant eco-sourced native plants into the river edges.
Off-street (lawn) parking access is via a gate at 1045 Lower Styx Road - look out for the flags.
Come wearing closed-toe shoes/boots or gumboots and dress for the weather conditions. All tools and gloves provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
Afternoon tea will be provided so we can share and celebrate our mahi!
