Welcoming Week is a time to celebrate our diverse communities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and showcase the manaakitanga (the value of hospitality and caring for others) that we Kiwis are famous for.

This free, wheel-chair accessible event invites people of all ages to celebrate our city’s spirit of compassion, a lasting tribute to our collective response to adversity.

Be part of a unique experience that fosters connections and nurtures the values that bring us together as a community.

The Peace Train

You can find the Peace train chugging around a loop of the botanic gardens every sunny Sunday during the warmer months.

This miniature train was gifted to the city of Christchurch by the Yusuf Islam Foundation following the 2019 terror attacks.

All ages enjoy peacefully chugging along for free. Not only this is a great way to see the beautiful Botanic Gardens but also an opportunity to meet new people. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Please note: we will meet you in front of Peacock Fountain at 10am on 8 September. If it is raining on 8 September, we will move this session to 15 September, same time and location to meet up.
