Overcoming Fate - Film Screening

Join us for a screening of this 2015 Polish documentary telling the story of Polish war deportees to Siberia and Kazakhstan.

Many of the Polish war deportees were orphaned children, invited in 1944 by Rt Hon Peter Fraser to enjoy a safe haven in New Zealand until the end of WWII. Many remained here for life and came to be known as the Pahiatua Children.

The film uses archival footage and contemporary material filmed in Poland (re-enactments) and New Zealand (interviews with survivors) and includes footage filmed in Christchurch and interviews with Christchurch-based Pahiatua children.

The film is in Polish with English subtitles.

The production was co-financed by the Polish Charitable and Educational Trust based in Christchurch.

Event takes place in the TSB Space, Level 1, Tūranga.
