Most Reverend Paul Martin, S.M., Catholic Bishop of Christchurch invites all the people of Canterbury to join in the Marian Procession with the Consecration of the City and Diocese.
Maryfest is an annual procession in honour of Our Lady of Christchurch whose protecting image formerly stood in the old Cathedral tower and since the great earthquake is venerated at each years mind.
The procession takes place to honour Our Lady and ask for Her continual patronage by consecrating the city and diocese to Her Immaculate Heart. By consecrating ourselves to Her, we become, as it were, 'set apart' as belonging to Mary, and as such we can be certain that we will be protected by Her in a special way.
The procession will be presided over by the Vicar General, Fr Rick Loughnan at Our Lady of Victories. To enclose the names of your family and loved ones within the ex-voto heart offered to Our Lady at this year's Maryfest email.
