This Antarctic Port oozes with nostalgia from over 100 years ago when it supported expeditions from the heroic era to the ice-covered continent.

The voyages continue today with ice breakers, supply ships, tourism and fishing vessels all sailing into the Ross Sea region.

Our 3.5 km guided walk starts at Albion Square, highlights the proposed Te Ūaka The Lyttelton Museum, ambles down to the No 2 wharf to have a brief on Tug Lyttelton, discusses contemporary Antarctic shipping and takes in the iconic Dry Dock.

The Canterbury Branch of the NZ Antarctic Society and Te Ūaka The Lyttelton Museum are collaborating to share with you what makes Christchurch and Lyttelton an Antarctic Gateway City.

Check the NZ Antarctic Society website for weather cancellation.
