Lumen Ensemble | Christopher's Classics

Christopher's Classics at The Piano Presents 'Colours of Time' by the Lumen Ensemble, who make their New Zealand debut at The Piano in 2026.

Perhaps one of the most apocalyptic yet awe inspiring chamber works to emerge from the 20th Century, Quartet for the End of Time is Olivier Messiaen’s defiant message to the powers that be of WWII. Rich in biblical and natural imagery, this work is an immersive listening experience - don’t miss the rare opportunity to hear it live. Comprising leading Australasian soloists and tutors at Adelaide University, we are excited to welcome Lumen Ensemble who make their Aotearoa debut, also presenting Ravel’s equally evocative Piano Trio with an atmospheric world premiere from Australian composer Jack Frerer.

Jack Frerer New Work for solo clarinet (world premiere)
Maurice Ravel Trio in A minor
Olivier Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time

Elizabeth Layton violin
Edith Salzmann cello
Lloyd van't Hoff clarinet
Anna Goldsworthy piano

*Pre-concert talk with the artists from 6:40pm
