The railway station building at Little River was built in 1886 when the branch line to Little River from Christchurch was opened. Goods and stock were brought to the station from Akaroa and transferred to railway trucks and wagons at Little River.
The history of this building includes its role in transporting timber, firewood, stock and passengers, as well as its role in post and telegraph services.
The rolling stock on the track by the platform, including the diesel engine, carriage, brake car and wagons will be open and on display.
