Honouring our heritage by learning and bringing it to life

Visit our open day at the NZ Chinese Association Hall celebrating early Chinese and their heritage, from the past to calling Ōtautahi Christchurch home.

The New Zealand Chinese Association dates back to 1937 in Christchurch. We are showcasing the unique identity of early Chinese migrants by exhibiting the historical Chinese New Zealander experiences and their stories. Chinese people have been settling in New Zealand since the late 1800s. We reflect on the hardships and highlights of the early Chinese settlers who chose to call New Zealand home, and their cultural identity to the present day - celebrating cultural diversity in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Our open day is about sharing our stories such as linking relationships with Far North iwi, learning about Chinese history and experiences from those who came before us, who, in sharing knowledge and education, have created better pathways for future generations.
