Hagley Park's 1906 New Zealand International Exhibition

Dr Simon Pollard shines a light on the incredible undertaking that was designed to showcase New Zealand to the rest of the world.

The exhibition ran from 1 November 1906 to 15 April 1907 and had two million visitors at a time when the population of New Zealand was one million.

A huge white building almost the length of Park Terrace was filled with exhibits and displays of what the colony had achieved. Two towers at the main entrance were three-quarters the height of Christchurch Cathedral. Outside was a Māori Pa, elaborate fairground attractions and animals from the sub-antarctic in Victoria Lake.

Simon will talk about the exhibit and his great grandfather, Tom Pollard, who was Director of Entertainments.
