Explore Innovative Earthquake Engineering tour

Learn about the seismic resilience and discover how new and existing buildings withstand earthquakes to create a safer Ōtautahi.

It has been 10 years since the 2011 February Earthquake in Christchurch.

This tour will explore more of the engineering side of resilience and what makes Ōtautahi Christchurch safe. The tour will explain why the buildings are safe and what new technology has come out of the 2010 Canterbury Earthquake Sequence.

Learn about base isolation, buckling restrained braces, rocking structures and more.

This tour is open to all interested in learning about building resilience, no engineering background required. We will be walking 2.2km around the West End, starting from the Christchurch Art Gallery and ending at the Art Centre. Suitable for walkers 10 years and older.

This tour is brought to you by Te Hiranga Rū | QuakeCoRE: New Zealand Centre for Earthquake Resilience.
