Immerse yourself in all things Antarctica – meet huskies, make origami penguins, experience the aurora, and find out what's happening on the frozen continent.
Come along and meet members of the Antarctic community and hear about their experiences, the science being undertaken, the logistic challenges and the amazing possibilities. Exhibitors include RNZDF, Antarctica NZ, New Zealand Antarctic Society, Macpac, Antarctic Heritage Trust, KOPRI, USA, Earth Sea Sky and Heritage Expeditions.
Tamariki can follow the Antarctic trail and be in to win a family membership to the International Antarctic Centre Ambassador Club. Meet at the big penguin to enjoy Days of Ice Storytimes (10.30am and 11.30am) and join in with penguin origami (10am to 11am). Book in for a Penguins from space workshop (10am to 11am) on Auahatanga | Creativity, Level 4.
- Meet Joe and his Huskies (midday to 2.30pm) Library Plaza.
- Experience the Aurora Waiata – a sound and light installation in the Activity Room(10am to 5pm), Hapori | Level 1.
- See the Awesome Antarctica Polar Women Exhibition (10am to 5pm) He Hononga | Connection, Ground floor.
Awesome Antarctica Days of Ice is a celebration of Christchurch as a Gateway city and marks the opening of the 2023/24 science season in Antarctica.
