Come celebrate Ōtautahi Christchurch's connection to Antarctica with interactive activities and more at Explore Antarctica.

All whānau are welcome to attend this expo-style event. Come along and meet members of the Antarctic community and hear about their experiences, the science being undertaken, the logistic challenges and the amazing possibilities.

Tamariki can enjoy stories, crafts, a passport trail and meet the huskies:

  • Passport trail and prize draw
  • Making seals and knot tying with the University of Canterbury: 10am to midday
  • Penguin Quest with the University of Canterbury: 10am to midday
  • Storytelling: 10.30am and 11.30am
  • Spotting penguins from Space - bookings required, ages 7 to 12: 10.30am and 11.30am 
  • Meet the huskies – Manaaki, Theia, Kenai – and Joe their handler from Southern Huskies: 12pm to 2pm
  • Pōhatu Penguins Immersive - bookings required, ages 9+: 12.30pm and 1.30pm
