Quickly gaining a reputation as one of the chamber ensembles of the next generation, Belgian-Irish string quartet Sonoro join New Zealand pianist Tony Chen Lin.
Exploring dramatic shifts and colour contrasts, this programme celebrates the lyricism of Schubert and Schumann with two cornerstones of chamber music repertoire. Using patterns of the dark and powerful contrasted with Schubert’s natural instinct for melody and song, ‘Death and the Maiden’ is a masterwork among string quartets.
This work is paired with Schumann’s delightful, exuberant, and quintessentially romantic Piano Quintet which is widely considered as one of Schumann’s finest compositions and a major work of nineteenth-century chamber music.
Returning from Hungary to join with Sonoro to perform Schumann’s sublime Piano Quintet is Chinese New Zealand pianist, Tony Chen Lin.
