As part of the ‘Meet me on Gloucester’ trial, Christchurch City Council has teamed up with Circability!

Circability brings social good through innovative social circus programs. Since 2012, they have been creating positive social change by bringing joy to young people, older adults, people with disabilities, whānau, and communities.

They will be down at Gloucester Street for the next two Saturdays to demonstrate some amazing circus skills. This is an interactive circus activation where tutors will be there to teach skills like juggling, hula hoop, ribbons and spinning plates. There will be something for everybody, all ages, and all abilities.

Known for its high-energy and inclusive circus, Circabaility welcomes a diverse crowd that are keen to have ago!

This a great way to ‘activate’ this section of Gloucester Street with art, culture and community events. With the area home to the Performing Arts Precinct, Tūranga and Te Pae, Gloucester Street is an ideal location for hosting events and performances that showcase the arts, draw people to the central city and liven up the area. Trialling how this could look with a Council-supported event first is key to paving the way for this exciting possibility, as it allows us to see what works well and to form a ‘blueprint’ for future street events.
