The Christchurch Motorway Half Marathon is starting and finishing at the athletics track at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub and takes place on the pathways of the Southern Motorway. Fast flat course makes for a PB time.
There will be drink stations located throughout the run and locations will be advised prior to the event, once there's confirmation of the Southern Motorway completion.
All walkers and hybrid will start at 8.30am with race brief at 8.25am. All runners will start at 9am with race brief at 8.50am. The Kidz Dash will start at 9.05am with race brief at 9.01am.
The Half Marathon (21km) starts at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub, on the athletics track. You will spread out around the one and a half laps of the track before moving to the warm-up track behind the all-weather track and onto the access way road to the Southern Motorway underpass, and running on the motorway pathways.
Once on the motorway pathways the run will head south on the motorway pathways to Shands Road and returning to Ngā Puna Wai. You will be on the pathways all the way using the pathway to Prebbleton prior to getting to Shands Road and returning the same way. Then make a small detour to Springs Road and returning directly to Ngā Puna Wai where you will do one and a half laps of the track and enjoy the crossing the finish line with friends and family in the grandstands cheering you on.
There's nothing like starting and finishing a Half Marathon in a stadium and on a 400m athletics track.
There will be 1km markers throughout the event for the Half Marathon, 10km and 5km.
The 5km and 10km runners will start at the same time as the Half Marathon runners and will run out through the underpass and continue toward Carrs Basin.
When the 5km runners reach the 2.5km marker they turn and come back to Nga Puna Wai and when the 10km runners reach the 5km marker, they turn and return to the finish at Ngā Puna Wai with both the 5km and 10km doing the one and a half laps of the track to finish.
Walkers and Hybrid competitors will start 30 minutes before the runners start. We ask all runners during the event to let walkers know if they’re coming up on them. Walkers, please be aware of runners coming up on you throughout the event.
Hybrid competitors can run and walk when they like, although we ask that competitors don't run the full distance as this isn't in the spirit of the category. This is mainly for walkers that might want to run a bit.
