Celebrating Nowruz (Persian New Year)

Another Persian New Year is going to be celebrated in Tūranga Library with a Haftseen display, music, photo exhibition, finger foods and entertainment.

Nowruz is a spring festival, usually on 20 or 21 March. It’s an ancient celebration more than 3,000 years old.

Nowruz means ‘new day’ in Persian. It is sometimes called Persian New Year in English.

Nowruz is celebrated all over the world, but especially in countries in Central Asia, like Afghanistan, Albania, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kurdistan, Turkey, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

It’s a long festival. It lasts for 13 days.
