Bioblitz bonanza evening – Climate Action Campus

Come meet the scientists behind the iNaturalistNZ App and explore our night-time nature, recording what we find for the City Nature Challenge.

Did you know that a lot of New Zealand's most unique wildlife are nocturnal?

Come find out more at this evening extravaganza where scientists and experts will converge on the Climate Action Campus to uncover what lives here. Bring your torch, warm clothes and a camp chair for hanging out.

  • At sunset (5.38pm) sit and listen to the chorus of the birds as they farewell the day with song.
  • Dig in and help with earthworm surveys with soil creature expert Frank Ashwood.
  • Discover the beneficial insects that look after our vege gardens on CAC.
  • Explore the Nature Lab with entomologist Rob Cruickshank.
  • Head out on a spotlight tour of the red zone with ranger Zane Lazare.
  • Spotlight what’s in our awa from Jenny of Te Tuna Tāone programme
  • Find a night-flyer - light-trapping with Dr Morgane Merien of Canterbury Museum.
  • Park your chair at White Room Creative Spaces moth cinema (puppets)
  • Books and games galore with CCC Libraries Outreach Van.
  • Wood-fired pizza oven will be going until 6.30pm thanks to Climate Action Campus.
  • Coffee cart and sausage sizzle to keep us warm.

Keep track of how we are going on the City Nature Challenge website.
