Great opportunity to hear Christchurch's iconic Rieger pipe organ in the stunning acoustics of the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium.
The Friends of the Christchurch Town Hall Organ Trust are pleased to present the annual Christchurch Town Hall organ curator's free concert.
A wonderful opportunity to hear Christchurch's world-class Rieger pipe organ in the stunning acoustics of the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium, featuring the resident organist, international concert organist Martin Setchell, with guest, Thomas Eves, principal trumpet of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
Tom will play some scintillating Baroque music by Viadana and Bach, as well as the witty Sonatina for trumpet and organ by Hans Hielscher.
Martin's usual varied and entertaining organ music will begin appropriately with a famous March, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No 4 in G, played at the coronation of King Charles III in May 2023.
It will also include some favourite French music: Dubois' Toccata in G, Saint Saens' 'The Swan' and Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette (made famous by Alfred Hitchcock as the theme music introducing to his movies).
Talented young Christchurch organist Sea-am Thompson will also be performing. Music for all in an entertaining and audience-friendly atmosphere.
