Learn to play African drums in a drum circle. We start with basic techniques and some fun rhythm games, and you'll be drumming together as a group. It’s good for the brain, a great chance to work as a collective, and so much fun!
Caregivers are encouraged to book a ticket to participate alongside their child and have some fun together. The first session is especially created for 5- 9 year olds and their caregivers to play together (caregiver supervision required for 5-8 yr olds) and the second session is for older children and/or adults.
This workshop is led by Tamara Smith. Tamara is a trained high school teacher, as well as a renowned flautist, percussionist, composer, dancer, and band leader of world-music collective Mundi. Tamara has taught at high schools in New Zealand and the UK. She has been a music specialist to schools in Canterbury, and worked alongside renowned children’s musical play teacher Julie Wylie here in Christchurch.
Tamara loves to share the joy, humour, connection, and expression that music brings with children of all ages.
First session: Ages 5- 9 yrs
Second session: Ages over 10 yrs
