Proposed Temporary Road Closures

The Council has received applications for the temporary closures of the following roads, for the following events, on the dates and times shown below

New Brighton Fireworks 2018

Roads proposed to be closed:

  • Owles Terrace: From Pages Road to Collingwood Street
  • Marine Parade: From Hawke Street to Hood Street
  • Oram Avenue: From Beresford Street to Hood Street
  • Seaview Road: From Pages Road to Hardy Street
  • Hardy Street: From Seaview Road to Collingwood Street
  • Beresford Street: From Owles Terrace to Marine Parade
  • Seaview Road: From Shaw Avenue to Beresford Street
  • Collingwood Street: From Hardy Street to Union Street
  • Union Street: From Brighton Mall to Owles Terrace
  • Hood Street: From Union Street to Oram Avenue
  • Ida Street: Entire length
  • Mafeking Street: Entire length
  • New Brighton Road: From Pratt Street to Hawke Street

Proposed period of closure: 

  • From 6 pm to Midnight Friday, 2 November 2018
  • Should the event be postponed on Friday, 2 November 2018, it is proposed that the closures listed above be deployed on Saturday, 3 November 2018

Diwali Festival 2018

Roads Proposed to be closed:

  • Cathedral Square: From Colombo Street to Chancery Lane
  • Worcester Street: From Oxford Terrace to Chancery Lane

Proposed periods of closure: 

  • From 1 pm to 11 pm Saturday, 3 November 2018
  • From 1 pm to 11 pm Sunday, 4 November 2018

Christchurch Santa Parade 2018

Roads proposed to be closed:

  • Madras Street: From Moorhouse Avenue to Tuam Street
  • Saint Asaph Street: From Manchester Street to Barbadoes Street
  • Ferry Road: From Saint Asaph Street to Barbadoes Street

Proposed Period of closure:

  • From 8 am to 5:30 pm Sunday, 2 December 2018

Roads proposed to be closed:

  • Madras Street: From Tuam Street to Salisbury Street
  • Tuam Street: From Manchester Street to Madras Street
  • Lichfield St: From 25 metres West of Madras Street to 25metres East of Madras Street
  • Cashel Street: From 25 metres West of Madras Street to 25 metres East of Madras Street
  • Hereford Street: From Latimer Square West to 40 metres East of Latimer Square East
  • Latimer Square East: From Hereford Street to Gloucester Street
  • Worcester Street: From Latimer Square East to 30metres East of Latimer Square East
  • Gloucester Street: From Latimer Square West to 30meteres East of Latimer Square East
  • Armagh Street: From 60 metres West of Madras Street to 20 metres East of Madras Street
  • Chester Street East: From Madras Street to 20metres East of Madras Street
  • Oxford terrace: From Madras Street to 60 Metres North East of Madras Street
  • Kilmore Street: From Oxford Terrace to Manchester Street

Proposed Period of closure:

  • From 1 pm to 5:30 pm Sunday, 2 December 2018
  • A progressive reopening of Madras Street and adjoining roads will occur in a Northerly direction once the parade has passed and clean-up crews have cleared the roadway.
  • Should the parade be postponed on Sunday, 2 December 2018 it is proposed that the closures listed above  be deployed on Sunday, 9 December 2018

Uno Loco Christmas Party 2018

Roads proposed to be closed:

  • Poplar Lane: Entire length
  • Ash Street: Poplar Lane to Nurseryman Lane

Proposed period of closure:

  • From 6 am Friday, 14 December to 8 am 16 December 2018                                                                    

These closures are proposed to  be made under paragraph 11(e) of the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974.  The proposed closure will apply to all vehicular traffic with the exception of emergency service vehicles, vehicles directly involved with the event, Christchurch tramways vehicles and public transport services.

Any person who wishes to object to the proposed closures may do so in writing to the Council Secretary, Christchurch City Council, PO Box 73016, Christchurch, no later than 9 am on Thursday, 4 October 2018
