Consultation on proposed amendments to the Freedom Camping Bylaw

Christchurch City Council is proposing to amend its Freedom Camping Bylaw 2015, and is inviting public submissions on these amendments.

The bylaw amendments:

  • Prohibit all non-self-contained freedom camping throughout the Christchurch City Council
    District (which includes Banks Peninsula).
  • Allow certified self -contained camping without a time restriction in rural zones.
  • Prohibits all freedom camping in Lower Styx River carpark, the Windsport Park car park,
    Addington Reserve car park, part of French Farm foreshore and part of Wainui foreshore.
    (These areas are currently temporarily closed to freedom camping.)

Anyone can make a submission.
