Proposed temporary road closures - National Provincial Rugby Championship - Fire On High

The Council has received applications for the temporary closure of the following roads, for the following events, on the dates and times shown below.

National Provincial Rugby Championship

Roads proposed to be closed:

  • Jack Hinton Drive from Whiteleigh Avenue to Twigger Street
  • Twigger Street from Jack Hinton Drive to Lincoln Road

Proposed periods of closure:

  • From 12.30pm to 5pm, Saturday 10th August 2024
  • From 5.30pm to 10pm, Wednesday 28th August 2024
  • From 5.30pm to 10pm, Saturday 21st September 2024
  • From 5.30pm to 10pm, Saturday 5th October 2024

Due to the nature of the competition, the below timings will be unknown until competition results are finalised.

Closures will be confined to a 5-hour closure period, in alignment with standard closure time frames, between the times outlined below.

  • From 12.30pm to 10pm between Friday 11th October 2024 and Sunday 13th October 2024
  • From 12.30pm to 10pm between Friday 18th October 2024 and Sunday 20th October 2024
  • From 12.30pm to 10pm between Saturday 26th October 2024 and Sunday 27th October 2024

Fire on High

Roads proposed to be closed:

  • High Street from Tuam Street to Lichfield Street

Proposed period of closure:

  • From 7 am to 10 pm Saturday, 31 August 2024

Objecting to the proposed closure

These closures are proposed to be made under paragraph 11(e) of the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974.

The proposed closures will apply to all vehicular traffic with the exception of emergency service vehicles, public transport services, vehicles directly involved with the event

and event permit holders. No access will be available to vehicles who do not hold an event permit for access during the period of these proposed closures.

Any person who wishes to object to the proposed closure may do so in writing to the Council Secretary, Christchurch City Council, PO Box 73016, Christchurch, no later than 4pm on Tuesday, 30 July 2024.
