Christchurch City Council rating values - general revaluation

Rating Valuations for all properties in Christchurch have been updated by Quotable Value (an independent valuer contracted by the Council). These new 2022 Rating Valuations will be used as the base for rates charges from 1 July 2023 until 30 June 2026. Changes reflect the likely market sale prices as at 1 August 2022.

Rating Valuations must be updated every three years so the amount each property is charged in rates relates to market values. This General Revaluation does not affect the total amount in rates collected by the Council, but it does affect how much is paid by each property.

Finding a rating valuation

Valuation Notices will be posted to owners and ratepayers from 8 February 2023. The Valuation Roll containing Rating Valuations and property details is available for public inspection. You can search the Valuation Roll free of charge by:

  • Going online at ccc.govt.nz/rates(external link) and entering an address into the rates and valuation search
  • Visiting the Civic Offices at 53 Hereford St or any Council library or service centre during office hours.

Objecting to a rating valuation

If you think a new 2022 Rating Valuation is inaccurate, you may formally object:

You must lodge your objections by 16 March 2023. You must state the reason for objecting and your estimated property value.
