The status of a works arborist or a technician arborist will be attributed to an individual and not to the company which that individual owns or is employed by.  

If the application is approved the company of which the individual is the owner/employee of will be listed on our website.  The company details may also be released to persons requesting the list of technician/works arborists for resource consent purposes.

We hold the right to remove persons from the list if they are deemed to undertake arboricultural activities which do not align with our rules and principles.  This will be at the sole discretion of the Council.

Privacy Act

The Christchurch City Council is required to comply with the provisions of the Privacy Act 1993. Personal information is collected, held and used in accordance with the principles set out in that Act. In particular, the Council will:

  1. use personal information only for the purpose for which it is collected;
  2. retain personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected;
  3. release personal information to a third party only when required to or permitted to by law, if you have authorised the release or where disclosure is connected to the purpose for which the information was collected.

Works arborist description

In relation to Sub-chapter 9.4(external link) Significant and other trees of Chapter 9 Natural and Cultural Heritage, means a person who:

  • by possession of a recognised arboricultural degree, diploma or certificate and on the job experience, is familiar with the tasks, equipment and hazards involved in arboricultural operations; and
  • has demonstrated competency to Level 4 NZQA Certificate in Horticulture Services (Arboriculture) standard (or be of an equivalent arboricultural standard).

Technician arborist description

in relation to Sub-chapter 9.4(external link) Significant and other trees of Chapter 9 Natural and Cultural Heritage, means a person who:

  • by possession of a recognised arboricultural degree or diploma and on the job experience, is familiar with the tasks, equipment and hazards involved in arboricultural operations; and
  • has demonstrated proficiency in tree inspection and evaluating and treating hazardous trees; and
  • has demonstrated competency to Level 6 NZQA Diploma in Arboriculture standard (or be of an equivalent arboricultural standard).
