All funeral homes and funeral directors must comply with the Health (Burial) Regulations 1946.

The Council's Environmental Health Officer can assist you with any information requirements or undertake inspections at any stage of the development.

Before opening a new funeral parlour or mortuary, or taking over an existing one, email healthadmin@ccc.govt.nz to discuss your plans. Mortuaries and funeral director businesses require registration and inspection.

Mortuaries must comply with the Health (Registration of Premises) Regulation 1966(external link) and funeral directors must comply with the Health (Burial) Regulations 1946(external link).

Licences need to be renewed every year (1 July-30 June). If you are currently registered, you will automatically be sent a renewal invoice.
