Filming

Christchurch is well recognised as a great place for filmmakers. It is one of the most picturesque cities in the world and we have a proven history of spectacular filmmaking in our region.

Canterbury's regional film office, Screen Canterbury NZ(external link), is managed through ChristchurchNZ.  Screen CanterburyNZ's main role is to coordinate with production companies to gain the necessary approvals and/or information from relevant members of the local community, local government and impacted stakeholders. If you have any questions or simply need information, please email the Screen Canterbury NZ office manager.

To seek permission to film in public spaces apply for approval to film or email the filming coordinator at the Council for further information and guidance.

Please read the Ōtautahi-Christchurch screen protocols 2020(external link) before you apply.

Photography and filming in parks and gardens

As a filming or photo shoot location, Christchurch parks and gardens provide the perfect backdrop. They are available for shoots throughout the year.
