Fitzgerald Avenue/Cashel Street - traffic signals upgrade

What

We are undertaking re-cabling and installation of mast arm signals poles.

Why

To improve intersection safety by installation of mast arm signals poles and green right turn arrows on Fitzgerald Avenue.

Where

Intersection of Fitzgerald Avenue and Cashel Street in Christchurch City.

When

Work will start on the night of 25 April 2021 and is expected to be completed by late May 2021 (site and weather dependent). Work will be undertaken between Sunday to Friday, 7pm to 6am.

Details

Noise and Parking:

  •  There will be noise disturbance, particularly during the trenching and ducting phases of work
  •  To undertake the works safety some street side parking will be restricted

Night Shift Works:

  • It is anticipated on selected nights that Fitzgerald Ave will be will be restricted to 1 lane in each direction to provide safe working conditions
  • On selected nights manual stop/go operations will be in place

Timing and Duration:

  • All works will be undertaken on back to back night shifts
  • The signals upgrade works is expected to take 4-6 weeks to complete
