Councillor and Community Board candidates for Spreydon Ward in the 2022 local elections.

Spreydon Ward - Councillor (1 vacancy)

Melanie COKER

The People's Choice - Labour

Melanie COKER

My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward area.

I am the current Councillor for Spreydon, have a PhD in biochemistry and was a Research Scientist for 10 years. I also have business experience as the Director of my own education company, AHeadStart Ltd.
While elected, I have assisted residents to establish local community groups, and retain local facilities such as the Hoon Hay Community Centre. I have also encouraged diversity and participation in local democracy, especially with a focus on our young people.
Council needs to get the basics right, including fixing footpaths and repairing roads. Financial prudence in decision-making is essential.
My top priorities for Council include access to pure drinking water with a reliable infrastructure; accessible parks and recreational facilities; clean, healthy waterways and ecosystems; planning for climate change; and safe and reliable travel for everyone.
Your vote will enable me to continue to support and advocate for our community.

We want a nude sun bathing patch on the north lawn of the cathedral, retain the war memorial in the church grounds, and the police kiosk retained.
No more silly microwave masers to tingle or sting people at hall or street meetings, we have worked out the frequency, so don't try it.
We want the paper road designation on the Cheviot-Meadowville Reserve lifted, so we can have a footpath on the north side. The Helmores Lane bridge should have the traffic centre rebuild to match the bridge footpath, with a gradual road rise of dirt or whatever.
Widen the footpath Lincoln and Whiteleigh, and Selwyn and Brougham Corners, by setting back the boundaries under the Public Works Act.
All traffic to stop in all directions for pedestrians.
Post your vote early

Your hard-earned rates dollars must be spent smarter - the basics done well, such as roads, footpaths, and not over engineered cycleways. You want the stadium built for current and future generations to enjoy, a fixed price honoured, and for it to not be a long-term burden.
You are concerned about the loss of our Three Waters assets, and the erosion of local democracy. These matters may not be a priority for your current council representatives, but they are for me. I will ensure your voice is heard and listened to.
Our Garden City is home, and has been since 1994. I am a husband, and father of two. We're strongly connected to the Spreydon community, and I have built up two successful businesses over the past 15 years.
Putting my skills to work for you, to help make our community and city truly world-class, would be a privilege.

My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.

I have lived in Spreydon for the majority of my life. Having been an active participant in local politics for the last few years, I have spoken before ECan and the Council on issues of Intensification and Transport, thankfully with some success. And I am currently working towards a degree in economics and environmental politics.
As a young person living in this city my primary concern is that of Climate Change. As your community board member, I would advocate for infrastructure that will support all of us moving towards a sustainable future, like safer cycle paths. We must think forward and develop a future proof community for the sake of everyone to come after us.
My hope is that this city would become more vibrant and modern with liveable neighbourhoods and people friendly streets, let's make Christchurch a world class example of sustainability. Thank you for your time!

A Bus for Sommerfield

Tubby HANSEN

My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere- Heathcote Community Board area. I am also standing for Mayor and Council - Spreydon Ward.

It is a disgrace that this is another election in which I have to stick up for the people of Sommerfield in having no bus there.
The No.60 bus used to go down to the Sommerfield Street no-speed limit drag strip. It used to go along to Barrington Street, and traffic lights are needed there to chop up the endless high speed traffic on Barrington St.
We used to live in Holcombe Place in one of the state houses, and I used to catch the bus on Sommerfield St to the Square, then the North Beach bus to Travis-Bower Ave bus stop to work in the pre-cut yard, cutting studs.
A splitter island is needed on Sommerfield St at Selwyn St to get across to the south side of Sommerfield St, for people in mobility scooters, prams and school children.

Our Garden City is home, and has been since 1994. I am a husband, and father of two. We're strongly connected to the Spreydon community, and I have built up two successful businesses over the past 15 years.
I bring a local connection, an entrepreneurial and business skillset, diversity of thought and experience, and a strong desire to ensure your voice is heard and listened to.
Too often your elected representatives forget it was you who put them there. This is unfortunately evident in the recommendations they make, which often do not align with community sentiment.
Putting my skills to work for you, as part of the local Spreydon Community Board, would be a privilege.
What's important to you is important to me. I am accessible, professional, and here to assist you. I am always available to hear your concerns or feedback. Contact me anytime at sam4spreydon@gmail.com or 021832733.

Vicki TRUSTRUM

My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.

I was born and raised in Spreydon, my father was the Barber on Milton St and I was one of the Pastors in a local church for over 9 years.
I am very community orientated and have been involved in pastoral care for 38 years so have a passion for people to live the best life they can. Living in a great community is important and I would like to be part of seeing improvements in Spreydon.
Concerns I share with you are land intensification, chlorination of our water supply, three waters, transport networks etc.
We need to focus on reducing expenditure and rates. Which means, listening more! I listen, I respond. I want to serve our community and that truth is honoured and accountability is maintained.
My interests: listening to music, playing my guitar, exercising with my dog, activities with friends, reading, aviation, photography, gardening and attending church.

Callum WARD

Callum WARD

My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.

It's been a privilege to serve on the Spreydon-Cashmere Community Board for the last 3 years.
I've advocated strongly for safer streets, better public services, for parks, libraries, pools and our environment.
Alongside my People's Choice and Labour colleagues, we want Spreydon to be a place where every child can bike safely to school, where rates are fair and where public money is invested in getting the basics right. We love our neck of the woods and believe that everyone should have access to community facilities at low or no cost.
About me: I'm 27 years old, and I grew up in Hoon Hay and Spreydon. I've worked in schools and volunteered extensively in Spreydon. In 2016 completed my engineering degree and now work in tech for a large NZ construction firm. I want my family to live in a city where everyone gets a decent crack at life.
