Refund details

As per section 39(2) of the Dog Control Act 1996, a portion of the registration fee may be refunded to the registered owner.

Your refund is based on when your request is received by Council, not from the date your dog has passed away, and only applies to the number of full calendar months remaining in the registration year.

For example, if you report the death of your dog in January, your refund will be calculated from the start of February to the end of June.

Refunds can only be paid into New Zealand bank accounts. If your registration fee was paid online by credit or debit card, we will automatically refund your card account.

There is no refund if your registration fee was not paid, or when your request is received in the final month of the registration year – June.

How did you pay your registration fees?

We will automatically refund your credit or debit card account.

We will contact you to arrange your refund.
