About our soloist

Eunseong Kim is a 20-year-old South Korean-born trombonist. He has gained recognition as an emerging young soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer, captivating audiences in the Canterbury region. In 2018, his chamber group received the prestigious KBB Music Award in the South Canterbury category of the National Chamber Music Contest. In 2023, he received the Performer Prize for the UC Lilburn Composition Award. Most recently, he has played as a soloist with the Christchurch Youth Orchestra. 

Eunseong's musical journey began with the violin at a young age, and he was involved in the renowned Musica Sacra Boys Choir in South Korea. After moving to New Zealand at 14, he discovered his passion for the trombone, embarking on a new musical path. Currently, in his second year of the Bachelor of Music program at the University of Canterbury, Eunseong receives guidance from esteemed instructors. He has been taught by Margaret van Ginkel and Jang Young-won and is currently studying under the mentorship of Ben Zilber at the University of Canterbury.
