Governors Bay Foreshore Track

This shared track follows the coastline from Governors Bay to Teddington at the head of Whakaraupō-Lyttelton Harbour.

Due to safety concerns, a bridge on the coastal walkway between Sandy Beach and Governors Bay is being removed.

While we’re investigating replacement options, a low-tide bypass route has been created along the foreshore. Please note this is impassable for 1 to 2 hours on either side of high tide.

If you are heading south during high tide, depart from the coastal track at Sandy Beach Road and walk along the Main Road footpath before descending back to the Governors Bay jetty area (approximately 1km) before rejoining the coastal route. If you are heading north during high tide, head away from the coast at Jetty Road.

Check the track status page for up-to-date information.
