Aranui - trial road layout changes (Shortland Street, Hampshire Street, Rowan Avenue & Breezes Road)

What

We’re trialing temporary changes to make streets around schools more people friendly and inviting.

Why

These temporary changes are being trialed to make this area a more welcoming and safe space for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. We'll be gathering feedback about how people interact with the street and their experiences.

Where

Shortland Street, Hampshire Street, Rowan Avenue and Breezes Road - various locations near intersections and pedestrian crossings.

When

29 January 2024 to early April 2024. Monday to Friday, Saturday (if required), 6am to 7pm with some night/evening works (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

  • The trial is supported by the Streets for People programme, an initiative 90 percent funded by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency that aims to make it easier and faster to create safer, healthier and more people-friendly streets.
  • The trial approach uses low-cost, temporary materials to help people imagine what the area could look like before anything permanent is developed.
  • We want to hear what people think about the changes and encourage people to provide feedback during the trial. You will be able to give feedback at letstalk.ccc.govt.nz once the trial begins.
  • During the trial we will be monitoring traffic and how people move through and use the area. This helps us see what works and what doesn’t, so that we can quickly make changes based on feedback.
  • In the event of unsuitable weather, works will be rescheduled.
  • Some on street parking will be unavailable while we install the materials, but we will try and minimise parks taken for traffic management.
  • We will be changing the road layout and installing materials for around 8 weeks.  Materials will be installed by HEB & subcontractors. While we do this work, traffic management will be in place.

Please advise as soon as possible if you have any specific requirements for property access during the time we install the materials in the street, including medical visits, large vehicle deliveries/moving, or other planned work on your property.
