St Michael and All Angels: Our treasures and taonga

Visit an open day at St Michael and All Angels Church and discover the history inside.

View the interior of the church and a display on its history. The open church will be hosted by two knowledgeable hosts who can answer questions about the building's architecture and history and the stories behind its many treasures.

Our treasures and taonga include items brought from England for the first church, 30 stained glass windows, our waka huia which recognises our connection to tangata whenua, and in memory of Sir Apirana Ngata who worshiped here when he was a student at Canterbury University in the 1890s, and our pilgrims chapel which stands in remembrance of those immigrants who arrived in the first four ships.
