Pet and animal expo

If you’re a pet owner make sure you head to the Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre this weekend for the Christchurch Pet and Animal Expo. Hundreds of the latest pet products and services will be on display and there will also be entertainment throughout the day in the Performance Arena. The expo. The expo is on from 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

Thousands of second-hand books will change hands at Bookarama this weekend.

Big book sale

Want to stock up on books, DVDs or jigsaws for those longer winter nights that are coming? The Rotary Club of Bishopdale/Burnside is holding its 12th annual Bookarama this weekend. It is going to have 50,000 books on sale plus jigsaws, games, CDs, DVDs and vinyl records. The Bookarama is being held in the Burnside High School Gym, Greers Rd, from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and from 10am to 2.30pm on Sunday.

Autumn Garden Show

Keen gardeners and those new to the hobby of gardening will want to make a bee-line for the Botanic Gardens this weekend and the Autumn Garden Show. The show is  great opportunity for people to find out about local gardening clubs they can join and to learn about a wide range of plants.  As part of the Show the Chrysanthemum Circle will be holding their annual competition, with gorgeous blooms on display in the Visitor Centre.  The  Autumn Garden Show is open from 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday and entry is free. 

Mountain bike festival

The 30th anniversary of the Port Hills Classic mountain bike race is being celebrated this weekend with a two-day mountain bike festival. The festival is being held at Halswell Quarry Park and includes short and long cross country and downhill events, kids races and a free movie night. Find out more.
