Swirl into spring with a ride on the replacement indoor hydroslide at Jellie Park Recreation and Sport Centre.

The slide will open to the public this Saturday from 12pm until 6pm offering a fast, thrilling ride full of twists and turns.

Christchurch City Council Head of Recreation Sport and Events Nigel Cox says the replacement indoor hydroslide is going to be popular with children and fun-loving adults.

“The slide uses changes in lighting to add to the excitement.”

This is a completely different experience to the hydroslide at Taiora QEII Recreation and Sport Centre with no inflatable tubes required so it will be much faster, Mr Cox says.

Cobham Intermediate student Majenta Fasi, who tried out the hydroslide this week, says it's a lot of fun. "I enjoyed how everything went, how the lights kept repeating, it tricked my mind. I really liked how it was indoor so I didn't get cold like the outside ones."

Fellow student Nathan Gardner was also impressed: "It had awesome lights on the inside of the hydroslide, and the end was cool because the water goes everywhere"

Normal opening hours for the hydroslide will be from 3.30pm until 6pm on weekdays and from 12pm until 6pm on weekends and public holidays.

More than 400 people voted last year for the blue and green colour scheme for the new hydroslide.

The replacement indoor hydroslide is one of the most visible parts of the repairs being carried out at Jellie Park and complements the work currently being completed on the outdoor area which includes a new wet playground area for children.

The repair programmes at both Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre and Jellie Park Recreation and Sport Centre are being carried out in stages to ensure the facilities are able to remain operating.
