Stabilisation of bund.

Why

On 24 August 2017, the Council agreed to stabilise an emergency bund constructed in July 2017 to help reduce flood risk in Southshore to meet resource consent requirements.

Southshore, South New Brighton Park and Residential Red Zone.

When

Work will start 8 July 2019 through to September 2019. Thank you for your patience while we complete this important work to reduce flood risk in Southshore in the short term.

The contractor is City Care Limited. Phone 050 824 8922 24 hours, 7 days a week. Advise us if you have specific property access requirements e.g medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries, planned works.

  • Stabilise and landscape bunds at Jellicoe Marsh.
  • Place rock protection on the estuary side of Council emergency works near 44a Rocking Horse Road and at the Heron Street road end.
  • Two driveway extensions and new stormwater manholes within the residential red zone at 36a and 62c Rocking Horse Road.  A new manhole at Plover Street.  Once complete these will allow temporary stormwater pumps to be placed when extreme tide and heavy rainfall is forecast.
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained along the estuary edge track for the duration of the works.
  • A temporary diversion will be in place when required between Heron Street and Godwit Street via Rocking Horse Road.
  • The carpark at the corner of Ebbtide Street and Estuary Road will be closed for the duration of the works.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the area via the estuary edge and boardwalk.
  • Traffic Management will be in place on Ebbtide Street.
