COVID-19 update on parks and tracks

All parks and tracks are open under alert level 2.  To help keep everyone well, please continue to maintain a 2 metre distance from other people when you’re out and about and please wash your hands before and after using equipment in our parks and gardens.

The following are all open:

  • All parks and gardens
  • Public toilets
  • Playgrounds, play equipment or exercise equipment in parks
  • Visitor and information centres
  • Dog parks
  • The Botanic Gardens
  • Boat ramps and wharves
  • Cemeteries

Access

The main access points into the park are from Sign of the Takahe, the main Victoria Park car park, and Sign of the Kiwi. 

Bus routes reach as far as the Sign of the Takahe. Refer to Metroinfo(external link) for timetables.

Gates and opening hours

Gates are open from 7.30am to 7pm and, during daylight savings months, from 7.30am to 9pm.

Toilets

Facilities available at Victoria Park, Sign of the Takahe and Sign of the Kiwi.

Dogs

Outside the designated dog park, dogs are only permitted on the walkways and must be on a leash at all times. 

Volunteer

Make a difference to the environment by volunteering in the Port Hills.

Christchurch City Council along with a number of community organisations run regular working bees and planting days.

Victoria Park has a children's playground, opportunities for walking and cross-country and downhill mountain bike adventures.
