Thousands of great books will be up for grabs when the Christchurch City Libraries Big Bargain Book Sale begins on Friday.

The popular annual sale is a chance for people to get their hands on books and other items that are no longer in demand at the city’s libraries but are still in good condition.

More than 50,000 books, magazines, DVDs and CDs will be available for people to buy.

People browse the books for sale at the Big Bargain Book Sale.

The Big Bargain Book sale is on at Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre.

Most adult books will be priced at $3 while young adult and children’s books will be priced at $1. Audio-visual items will be on sale for $3 while magazines will be offered at 10 for $1. You can use EFT-POS or cash to pay for them. Credit cards or cheques will not be accepted.

“We replenish the stock throughout the course of the sale so regardless of when you turn up you should be able to find some great reading material at very low cost,’’ says Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson.

“It’s a great chance to stock up your book shelves and to get your hands on some good reading material before the cooler weather sets in.’’

The Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre in Lyttelton Street is the venue for the Big Bargain Book Sale, which runs from 9am to 7pm Friday and from 9am to 4pm Saturday.

People who are registered as Friends of the Library  can get a jump on other bargain hunters on Thursday, March 22 between 4.30 and 7pm.

There will be onsite parking available at the Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre but please be aware there are road works at the intersection of Lyttelton Street and Sparks Road.
