To help fund community facilities, the Local Government Act 2002 (LGA) allows a council to require development contributions if the effect of a development requires the council to provide new or upgraded infrastructure.
In September 2016, the Council amended its Development Contributions Policy [PDF, 1 MB]. The amendments ensure the Development Contributions Policy remains consistent with the Long Term Plan 2015-25 which was also amended in 2016. [PDF, 1.4 MB]
The Council is required to have a policy that details its approach to requiring development contributions. The policy must provide information on how development contributions are assessed and how much the contribution required will be.
The policy must be reviewed at least every three years and can be reviewed at any time in addition to this review requirement. Any review of the policy must include a community consultation process that meets the requirements of section 82 of the LGA.
